Binh Duong Province cooperates with Japan to develop light rail system

On June 17, the Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Department of Construction reached a working agreement with Japan's Tokyu Corporation, reaching a consensus on the content of cooperation in jointly researching and developing the light rail transit (LRT) system in Thu Dau Mot City.

A representative of the Binh Duong Provincial Department of Construction revealed that the Provincial People's Committee has instructed the establishment of a special group for light rail research and development.

A report from Japan's Tokyu Corporation states that the Binh Duong Light Rail Study Plan was approved by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in the third quarter of 2024. The project aims to establish a green growth zone in Binh Duong, including a light rail system, green industrial zones , renewable energy planning, and a transit-oriented urban development (TOD) model.

The Binh Duong Provincial Department of Construction also recommended that the provincial government approve several memorandums of understanding it has signed with Tokyu Corporation to implement cooperation in the planning, research, and development phases of a light rail system. The collaboration will include developing a light rail solution connecting the urban area with urban development zones, industrial parks, and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) areas. The study will cover Thu Dau Mot City and surrounding areas and is expected to be completed by August 15, 2025.

The Binh Duong Provincial Department of Construction stated that cooperation with Tokyu Group, a leading Japanese public transportation construction company, will help Binh Duong Province achieve its goal of building modern and environmentally friendly transportation infrastructure and contribute to the future construction of a smart and sustainable Binh Duong City.
