Our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive EC-3984 is a sprayable liquid version of our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Film AF 3109-2. This product offers excellent performance at temperatures up to 149°C (300°F). Our adhesive is commonly used for bonding wire mesh to aircraft and aircraft engine nacelles, thrust reversers, and acoustic panels.
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive EC-3984 combines the strength and performance of 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Film AF 3109-2 with the convenience and speed of spray application, enabling precise coating requirements and cost-effective coverage of large areas. Our sprayable formula can be used to secure wire mesh or other components requiring structural bond strength in high-temperature conditions. This adhesive is ideal for bonding wire mesh to engine nacelles, thrust reversers, and aircraft and engine sound panels, maintaining reliable performance at temperatures up to 149°C (300°F). 3M Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive EC-3984 cures at temperatures between 107°C (225°F) and 177°C (350°F). The film's variable cure rate and easy handling properties enhance design flexibility for efficient processing.

3M aerospace adhesives offer both good mechanical strength and durability
3M™ epoxy adhesives fall into the "structural adhesives" category, which also includes polyurethane and acrylic adhesives. Epoxy adhesives are typically formulated with reactive ingredients (a binder and an accelerator) that cure to form a solid plastic material after mixing. 3M offers epoxy adhesives in a variety of formats to support your processing needs:
Two-component This product's base and accelerator are stored separately, ensuring a long shelf life even at room temperature. This two-component adhesive is available in Duo-Pak cartridges for use with the 3M™ EPX™ Applicator System, allowing for simultaneous metering, mixing, and application. For larger operations, this product can be purchased in bulk. Because the components are mixed at the time of use, you can store unmixed material for subsequent jobs, reducing waste.
Single component This product is pre-mixed and must be shipped frozen. Store in the refrigerator and thaw before use.
film For single-component products, 3M pre-mixes the product and converts it into film form, so you can cut it to size and apply it to the bondline. 3M offers a variety of film weights/thicknesses and corresponding support services. These films must be stored refrigerated.
Two-component epoxy adhesives begin to cure once the two components are mixed in the specified ratio. Therefore, users must use the adhesive for bonding surfaces within a specific pot life. Similarly, one-component adhesives lose their potency within a specific timeframe after thawing, requiring use within this timeframe. This pot life can range from a few minutes to 48 hours, but can also be longer.
Epoxy adhesives generally offer high shear and peel strengths and excellent environmental tolerance. They are widely recognized for their excellent workability, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance. Depending on the formulation, epoxy adhesives are available in flexible or rigid forms, transparent or opaque, fast-curing or slow-curing, high-flow or low-flow, and room-temperature or high-temperature curing options. Epoxy adhesives are considered high-strength adhesives, making them ideal for applications requiring strength, durability, and durability.
