Uses of lime powder
1 Soil acidification correction
Lime helps improve soil by reducing acidity and neutralizing sour soil.
In alum-affected areas, especially in regions in the south such as Cu Chi and Long An, it is very difficult to cultivate crops without appropriate soil treatment and improvement measures. Through the process of soil improvement using irrigation combined with the use of agricultural lime, alum soil can be reclaimed and become suitable for planting crops and vegetables.
2 Disinfection and prevention of fungal diseases for crops
At the beginning of the rainy season, lime powder is often applied to garden soil to prevent insects and fungal diseases hidden in the soil. It can be spread around the base of the trees or applied as a lime wash on the tree trunks.
Note: Do not mix Ca(OH)2 lime powder with other types of fertilizers when applying to plants. Typically, it should be applied 3-5 days before applying other fertilizers to ensure the effectiveness of the fertilizer and preserve beneficial bacteria for the crops.
3 Providing calcium to the soil and increasing the root development of crops.
Before planting, it is necessary to apply a basal dressing of lime powder and reapply annually to supplement Calcium for the soil. This helps detoxify the soil, increases resistance to adverse conditions such as heat, acidity, and salinity, and raises the soil pH. This allows the root system to develop and absorb other fertilizers better, thereby saving on fertilizer costs. Applying manure or inorganic fertilizer after liming often results in greener and healthier foliage.

When encountering adverse conditions such as prolonged rain causing waterlogging that leads to yellowing leaves due to root damage, the first step to remediate this is to spread lime powder around the base of the plant to protect the root system and disinfect the soil. Only after a few days should superphosphate and manure be applied, which will help the crops recover quickly.

4 Disinfectant effect.
Due to its strong basic properties, lime powder is effective in killing certain bacteria harmful to crops and livestock. Lime powder is often used for disinfecting farms, livestock pens, and ponds after each harvest. Especially given the increasing prevalence of livestock diseases, lime powder is an effective, low-cost product that can be used regularly as it is non-toxic to humans.
